Many people wish to know where the Enclave of Nouera is, few swear they have been there, many other just dream about it.
The Enclave of Nouera was found by discovering some of the enclaves resting on the European soil. An enclave is a territory completely enclosed within the borders of a state other than the one to which it politically or linguistically belongs. The genesis of an enclave can be very different: islands of territory separated from the sovereign state for religious reasons, as a result of a war or a peace treaty centuries ago.
Through the exploration of first degree enclaves, I learned intrinsic characteristics of those territories. They look like matryoshka strenuously clinging to their identity and defending their values and rights. But what makes an enclave an enclave?
What distinguishes an identity of a territory?
I collected every element that could delineate the salient features of a state's identity definition. Be it the national anthem, one's flag, one's sports, one's elections, one's cuisine, and any other distinguishing trait. Archival photos, hand-made illustrations, AI processing of hypothetical icons, staged photos, textual instructions and visual metaphors to form a fresco of what it takes to create one's own space in the world.
In doing so, I found myself plotting a magical island that it draws from my life immersed in the countryside and with the people I love. It borrows from suggestive travels, fairy tales, rituals and imagination. It’s an intimate Neverland version which forces us to think what really makes our spot on earth a special and worth living place to be.
We might catch ourselves wandering over lands and through time. Some of us will never find a perfectly coincidental version of Nouera but, for all of us, imagination is the one and only undisputed place of childlike freedom.
